     We have Appalachian Heirloom green bean seed for sale. Seeds are all pole type beans. These seeds are not readily available through commerical markets.Some are seeds saved in families from generaton to generaton. Most have been traced back over 100 years. Real lovers of green beans say if a green bean does not have strings it is no good. Lets keep the heirloom green beans alive for future generations by planting and enjoying the real delicious bean flavor. We have over 84 varieties of  heirloom pole beans we do not sell bush beans. Turkey Craw
=  Brown on one end and buff on the other, it is grown by many gardeners and often sold at farmers’ markets in TN. Pods 5”-6” long. This is a great southern bean and it has been around for many, many years. Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Partridge Head = Some of the older folks call this bean (Quail Head) or (Paterge) either way this is one of the most popular beans around the Cumberland Mountains of middle TN . Small type bean about 6' tall vines. Pods 5”- 5 1/2”. Seeds brown streaks that resemble a Quail head. Great taste.

Greasy Back  =  White seeded 5" pods 8-9 seeds per pod. Vines 8' a greasy cut short bean. This bean commands high prices at farmers markets. Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Myers Family Bean =  White seeded bean. A bean that is very prolific and excellent tasting. Vines 6' – 7' tall.

Brown Stick Bean =  First to bear in our garden and had a sweet taste. We love this small brown seeded bean about 4”-4 1/2” pods. Easy to pick as the vines grow 5 1/2” - 6” tall.

Doyce Chambers =  This is a  white greasy cut-short 5” or 6” pods. This bean is a high producer bearing till frost in our garden. Grows 7' to 8' tall. Good greasy bean flavor.

Cranberry Tender Pod  =  Seed cream with cranberry striping .Pods 5 1/2" with 7 seed per pod.Vines can reach 8'. Cannot say enough about how tender this bean is. You should try them.

Greasy Grits  = Greasy type bean. Small seeded white seed with 8 seed per pod.Good yeild, Pods 4" to 4 1/2" Vines 7' to 8'.

Old Time Kentucky Heirloom  = A red seeded heirloom bean. Seeds medium size.Pods 4 1/2" with 7 seed per pod. Vine 7' to 8'.Bears heavy and long.

Ollie Gobble  = Great small type bean with cream colored and brown molted seed, 8 per pod. Vines 6' to 7'. Heavy bearing good flavor.The name says it all.

Green Golden Hull Cornfield  = Tan with brown striped seed.Pods 6 1/2" with 6-8 seed per pod. Vines 7' to 8'. Very unusual color pods greenish yellow when ready to pick.A great tasting bean.

Dorie Smith Brown  = Light brown seed 6 - 8 per pod. Pods 4" to 4 1/2". Vines 7' to 8'. Very rich beany flavor.

Rattlesnake =  Distinctive dark green pods streaked with purple grow up to 8" long. Light buff seeds splashed with dark brown, resembling a rattlesnake’s coloration. Very fine flavor. Vines grow vigorously to 10'. Good resistance to drought. Pole habit, snap, 60-90 days.

Mayflower =  Said to have been brought to North America on the Mayflower by Ann Hutchinson in 1620, followed by a long history of being circulated in the Carolinas. This productive cutshort type has short pods packed with small square seeds. White seeds blotched with rose. Young string beans are prized for delicious flavor. Also excellent as a dry bean. This is a small type bean. 100 days.

Lazy Housewife =  Introduced around 1810, this is one of our oldest documented beans. Named Lazy Housewife because it was the first snap bean that did not need to have the string removed. Vines bear heavily and continuously until frost. Straight 5-6" long pods with distinctive shiny white seeds. Pole habit, snap or shell, 75-80 days. Delicious and have a very fine string (hence the name) and are easy to snap if you hate snapping or shelling .

Fatman
=  Large seeded white bean that lives up to its name. Very heavy producer. Tender 5” pods. Around 6' high vines. Said to be from Virgina.One of our most productive bean of 2012 season. Great snap bean.

Case KnifeThis bean comes from West Virginia. Case Knife is another excellant tasting brown cornfield bean. Very populor in Tennessee and Kentucky.

White MCcaslin =  McCaslin Pole Bean: ( 65 Days ) Heirloom  Medium green pods reach eight inches long and are meaty, slightly flattened and of superb quality. One of the oldest heirloom varieties and a old Southern favorite introduced in 1912 by the McCaslan family of Georgia. The vines produce prolifically throughout the growing season. Great dry or as a snap bean. Seeds are ivory-white, oblong and flat.

Dade Bean = This is a beautiful long podded 
white seeded pole bean.Tender bean bears heavy in our garden over a long period of time.Pods 8''- 9” vines 8 to 9 ft. Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Brown Tobacco Worm Bean  =  Light brown seed. Tender and rich bean taste. 4” - 5” pods. Vines 7' – 8' tall. Except for color of seeds very similar to white tobacco worm bean.

Old Joe Clark =  Also called Red Peanut. Bean is pink. It has a pea-nutty taste. It's good for both snap and dried and they are good for canning. and it's a half runner. A small trellis is a good idea for more production.

Tennessee Cornfield Bean  = Brown seeded. Raised in the Cumberland Mountains of TN for many years. Vines 5 to 7 ft. high. Beany flavor. This is a greasy cut short.

White Tobacco Worm Bean =  White seeded. Large green pods that when mature some say look like the green Tobacco Worm caterpillar. Including the pointed end. Tender and rich bean taste. 4” - 5” pods. Vines 7' – 8' tall.

Pink Tip Greasy  = White seeded. Very tender and tasty.  4” - 5” pods. Vines 7' – 8' tall.

Barnes Mountain Cornfield Bean =  White cornfield bean from KY. 5” pods in our garden. Is similar to the Tobacco Worm bean in taste which most people love including us.

NT Half Runner  = White seeded half runner not tough when full. Vines are 6' to 7' tall with large pods and seed. Quite large for a half runner.You will love them. Produce all summer till frost in our garden.

Purple Poded Pole  =  Discovered by Henry Fields in an Ozark garden in the 1930s. Plants climb vigorously to 6' and are extremely productive. High quality, meaty, stringless 5-7" reddish-purple pods that blanch to light green. Pole habit, snap, 68 days.

Kentucky Wonder Pole  =  Vigorous 5-7' plants yield clusters of 7-10" stringless pods. Great flavor, an all-time favorite. Pole habit, snap, 58-64 days.

State Half Runner  =  
Eaten fresh or shelled as dried beans. State half runners thrive under difficult conditions, producing a prolific crop of 4 to 5 inch long pods full of old fashioned flavor.White seed, Matures in 52 days.   Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Logan Giant =  Large and highly productive bean. Seeds are brown with white frosting color. Good for fresh snap and also good to dry. Pods 5 1/2”- 6” long.  Can grow quite tall if given a high trellis.

Mountaineer White Half Runner =  This is a tender half runner bean with succulent white seeds. It boasts terrific yields of old-fashioned, rich "beany" beans that taste and smell terrific. Pods 4 to 5”. 56 days to maturity.

Tennessee Brown Bean  =  Heavy producer, brown seeded pole 5” to 6” pods. Vigorous vines 8' to 9'. Popular bean in the Cumberland Mountains of  TN.   Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Missouri Wonder    =  For snaps  thick round/oval med-green slightly curved fleshy 6-8 in. pods. 60-75 days. Stringless when young, prolific sure cropper.

Cherokee Trail Of Tears  =  
The Cherokee Indians carried the beans over the infamous "Trail of Tears" in the winter of 1838 from the Smoky Mountains to Oklahoma.The vines reach about eight feet producing six inch green pods with purple shading.  The seeds are a shiny, jet-black color.  They can be used when young and tender as green snap beans or left to mature for dry beans.

Good Mother Stallard  =  
Maroon beans splashed with white, 5-6 seeds per pod. Wonderful rich meaty flavor, great for soups. Very productive. Pole habit, dry, 85-95 days.

Price's Cherokee
 =  Vines, flowers, and mature pod's are violet colored, Cherokee dating to the 1830's, Taken over the trail of tears from Georgia to Oklahoma then to California 1930's.

North Carolina Long Greasy  =  One of the more well known greasy beans from North Carolina. White seeded.wonderfully flavorful variety of bean, rare, prodigious bearers, and a rewarding crop all around.

NC Speckled Long Greasy Cut Short  =  This is a very popular  speckled seeded cut-short greasy bean.This is one of the favorite beans of the Western Carolina Farmers Market. It is one of the longer greasy beans and somewhat tan with darker brown specks. It is also very tender.  Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Old Time Golden Stick  =  Productive plants. Early maturity. Old varity, short fat pod with golden tan colored seed. From 100 year old lady in Fentress County TN via Don King 70 year old farmer who still plows his hillside farm with mules.

Stick Bean  =  From Dr. Nathan Moore has been in his family 4 or more generations.  Large buff seed,very productive.     Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Ogle Family Shortcut  =  Has 4” long pods with molted light tan seed,this bean was used as a leather britches bean. From Conny Clabo, Sevier Co.,TN. In the1930's Odie Ogle brought this bean out of what is now The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Granny  =  Tick bean, Old-Time Brown Stick, Leer Bean, short fat, slightly curved pods, excellent flavor, good canning type or shell bean at dry stage. Off gray tan colored seed once common to farmers in Smoky Mountains.

Red Goose  =  A long bean well filled out elongated dark red seeds, green pods take on a pinkish hue at maturity. From Frank Paschal, Jefferson Co. TN. A well known farmer in that area, highly regarded as the best produce farmer in that area.

Cades Cove Stick Bean  = Greasy cut-short type pods 4" with 7 to 8 seeds per pod. One of the best tasting beans you will find. Seeds are light tan with dark molting. From Dorthy Sharp grown in Cades Cove area of Great Smoky Mountains since the 1800's.

Ram's Horn  =  Small tan with black striped seed. It is a 1/2 runner only growing 3ft in height .

Nichols Black Appalachian Bean  =  Bean collected from the Nichols family of Pickens SC.

Ma Williams Pole  =  85 days. This is an excellent shell bean. Good producer, good flavor,large seeds of a tannish-green color. Pods changing from green to a beautiful yellow to a bright pink rose color.

Juanita Smith  =  Redish markings on 5" pods. 8 seed to pod and vines reach 8' to 9'.

Zelma Zesta  =  Pods have purple markings and 6 1/2" to 7" long with 8 seeds per pod. Vines 7'- 8'.

Friedrich Pole  =  Vines 7' - 8' with 4" pods and 7 to 8 seeds per pod.  Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.  

Blue Marbutt  =  70 days.  A colorful, tasty, southern heirloom. Colorful purplish stems and purple tint to the leaves. Tasty, purple streaked green pods.

Fortex  =   Growing to over 11", Fortex produces extra long, round pods. Early and very productive, the beans may be picked at 7" in length for extra slender, "filet" beans. Dark green, firm-textured pods are completely stringless and delicious at all lengths, even after the seeds enlarge. Dark brown seeds.  Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Grady Baily Cut-Short = From NC this is a great greasy cut short. White seeded 5” pods 8 seed per pod with vines reaching 8” to 9”.  Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Tar Heel Pole Bean  =   This pole bean heirloom are from the descendants of the Estes and Schults families from the Washington Cascade foothills. Their ancestors had brought it from North Carolina in the 1800's. These vigorous climbers will need to be trellised in some manner! The 4-5” long pods are thin skinned and rich in that heirloom “beany” flavor! Pods are tender and will absorb flavors. So don't hesitate to add that bacon grease and onions for that “ southern country style” taste treat!   Pkt. will contain 125 or more seed.

Ruth Bible  =  Gray tan with orange eye rings round and shiney,85-95 days.Heirloom traced to 1932 in KY.       Limited supply of this rare bean. Pkt. will contain 50 or more seed.

South Carolina Red Stick  =  Slightly curved pods with a hint of pink at maturity, large red elongated seeds are kidney shaped, a favorite with all who have grown them, grown by a South Carolina family since 1830.    Limited supply of this bean . Pkt. will contain 50 or more seed.

Pumpkin Bean  = This bean is very similar to the MA WILLIAMS BEAN Pods 6 1/2" lond pods with 7 medium to large seed. From Ralph Newcomb, Hardin Valley a farming area near Knoxville, TN.  Limited supply of this bean. Pkt. will contain 50 or more seed.

Mountain Pole Bean  =  Large dark brown seed. From Buster family in KY.    Limited supply of this bean. Pkt. will contain 50 or more seed.

Mennonite Purple Stripe
 =  80 days large, strong climbing plants producing 7” long pods with tan colored seeds with very dark purple stripes somewhat kidney shaped average 7 seed per pod.Keeps producing until fall. Waterloo, Ontario Mennonite heirloom.

Rose  =  Family heirloom from the Rose family of Panola, in Madison Cty., Kentucky. It's a large bean pods go 9-10 inches or even longer. The beans are solid plum on one end, for about a third of their length, which then breaks into a frosting over ivory. It is, in fact, one of the prettiest of our mountain beans.
